TEKNOTROPHEO - Bringing up Our Nation's Youth to Total Development

Ministry Program

H.O.P.E. UPDATES

(Note: H.O.P.E. is an acronym of our ministry program strategies: H-ealth; O-ut of school youth or education; P-rogressive Livelihood; E-vangelism & Discipleship programs.)

H - ealth Care program is our program that includes medical/dental missions, health and hygiene trainings, and medical assistance.

In the past ten years, we conducted several medical missions and had mobilized a hundred of volunteers who are professionals working in Manila and abroad. Some are doctors, dentists, computer programmers/technicians , employees , teachers and other professions. These volunteers rendered their services voluntarily, shared their time, resources and talents or skills. They were all touched in serving the Mangyans and considered themselves more blessed especially in material things and comfort in life.

We assisted several Mangyans who needed surgery; medicines, and hospitalization. We conducted health trainings for the parents, children and the community/church.

All of the above activities are on going.

Last December 23, 2006,Tatang Badong, one of the oldest Mangyans in the community, had surgery of a growing cyst at his back. Dr. Vergel in Mamburao Hospital didn’t charge him for the surgery cost. We just bought some medicines for the surgery and for his recovery. Tatang Badong still suffers from his stomach ailment, which might be caused by amoeba or gastritis problems, please pray for his complete healing.

MANGYAN KIDS’ HEALTH UPDATES

  • Mirale , an 6 year old Mangyan kid with congenital heart disease needs $7,500 for her surgery. Please read MIRALE UPDATES.

We thank God for several pharmaceutical companies namely Unilab, Pascual Lab, Glaxo/Smith Kline pharmaceutical companies who donated regularly medicines for our medical missions. Thank God also for other companies like Happee Toothpaste who donated lots of toothpastes ;Goldilocks who donated delicious bread and Nestle Co. who donated 2 big boxes of MILO chocolate powder and 60 liters of Milo choco drinks. We distributed these Milo drinks on New Year’s Eve; and on February 4, 2007. The Mangyans were very happy to receive chocolate drinks which they couldn’t really afford to buy. These blessing they received is very rare.

O - ut of school youth or Education program.

In this program, we provide full scholarship to children from kinder to college, as God provides; and we give also various trainings on development in the areas of spiritual, social, physical, and intellectual.

We started implementing this program last June 1999 by establishing Teknotropheo Learning Center (TLC) in partnership with the local government. We built a small learning center and gathered donated materials from several donors. This project was discontinued after two years due to lack of volunteer teachers from Teknotropheo , however , the local government continued the program by hiring a para-teacher.

Since then, we have focused our ministry among the Mangyan children who go to public school, in elementary and high school. We have provided housing for them ( for selected Mangyan kids only) ; school supplies; uniforms; hygiene products and food three times a day. We have tutorial classes to help them in their academics. We coordinate also with their teachers to follow up their status in class. We have at least 30-40 kids in school every year. Half of them stay with us in our development center and the other half go home daily . The kids who are “stay-in” undergo intensive wholistic training in our center. Training inputs for them are non-formal and formal. Below is our kids’ daily activities, from Monday to Friday :

P-rogressive LIVELIHOOD PROGRAM

Since 1999, we have focused on reaching out to 50 Mangyan families in Nangka, Barangay Balau,Abra de Ilog, Occidental Mindoro. These people eat rice without viand at all for three months in every year and the rest of the months, their main dish is cassava, the root crop. They eat too its leaves. Their main occupations are farming and kaingin but each family tills only an average area of approximately 25 sq. m.

We tried to implement small scale livelihood projects in the past years, like piggery and vegetable gardening. The piggery was not successful. Vegetable gardening continues. We also tried to form a non-formal small cooperative, a credit cooperative, but the Mangyans were unable to give their capital share. Teknotropheo shared small amount as capital share which the Mangyans borrowed for their farming expenses. However, this cooperative didn’t continue since the Mangyans failed to pay their debts till the capital reached zero peso. Due to lack of fund and other resources, we are unable to continue implementing the program up to this time.

We envision to acquire farm lots for this program which will better facilitate our livelihood projects.

E-vangelism/Discipleship Program or Mangyan Church Planting Program

We started our outreach to Mangyans by conducting evangelistic medical mission and film showing. It is our goal also to empower Mangyan churches to enable them to reach out to other Mangyan communities. We join them in their Sunday Worship services and we conduct leadership trainings and implement discipleship program. We coordinate also to other Pastors who minister to Mangyan communities and help them in their church needs like conducting medical mission and film showing. We encourage them also to bring to us the Mangyan children in their church who dream to go to school.

We conduct Summer Youth Camp and Vacation Bible School every year for the Mangyan children and youth. And in our mission center, we disciple Mangyan children and youth. We have regular morning and evening devotions, prayer time, Bible studies, and fellowships.

Our project this 2007 is to build a worship hall for the Mangyans who were relocated to other place due to an armed conflict in their old community. We need some materials for the church building and parsonage. We also need a missionary-Pastor, with knowledge in discipleship and community organizing skills, to shepherd these Mangyans.
