TEKNOTROPHEO - Bringing up Our Nation's Youth to Total Development

OUR MISSION

Currently , the mission of Teknotropheo.. is "MCYDM: M angyan Children and Youth Development Mission. We are reaching out to the Mangyan Tribal Community of Abra de Ilog, Occidental Mindoro Island, Philippines. Mindoro island is divided into two provinces, Oriental and Occidental Mindoro. Oriental Mindoro is the political and financial seat of the island whereas Occidental is considered the backcountry. Majority of the population are Tagalogs ( or non-Mangyans) where agriculture and fishing are the main sources of livelihood. The Mangyans, sparely distributed on both side of the provinces, constitute the unnoticeable minority.

Why set up MCYDM?
Despite the many social, religious and government agencies that have come to reach the Mangyans, many are still living under the shadow of the mountains. Survival in this fast changing society is what they are crying for, they are in search of changes and ways to attain a life that is full, a life that has 'life' in it. They dream of education for their children, a 'land' of their own and a place in the society , after all they are Mangyans, which means 'tao' in Tagalog or a human being.

"Youth is the hope of the nation", same is true with the Mangyans of Abra de Ilog, the youth are the backbone and the strength of this community. In line with Teknotropheo's vision of Filipino rural youth development MYDM was created to walk hand in hand with the families and community leaders in making a dream into a reality.

REACHING THE MANGYAN CHILDREN/YOUTH

The Mangyan Children are one of the poorest children in our country. They are located in Mindoro Island. These children are strongly discriminated by the “Tagalog” people or the lowlanders. Their parents want to send them to school, be developed and spare them from pain of discrimination but because of extreme poverty they couldn’t send their kids to school and could not even afford to give them food three times a day.

It is in this regard that Teknotropheo Missions is reaching out to them. We would like to give them total development.

We started reaching out to them last March 1998 by conducting evangelistic medical missions, film showing, and feeding programs. A year after implementing these programs, we chose to focus first on two Mangyan communities in order to effectively implement our HOPE program. We launched our MCYDC, Mangyan Children/Youth Development Center in October 2001 in a small old house we rented in Poblacion, Abra de Ilog. This center serves as housing for the Mangyan students, training and discipleship center, and staff house. We provide the Mangyan Children their school needs, hygiene products and food three times a day.

In order to fully facilitate the implementation of our programs, we envisioned to build our Mission Development Center, a 2-storey building. God provided for the purchase of the lot and we started the building works last July 2004. By God’s grace, the first floor was completed in December 2004. The construction works of the 2 nd floor and the roof top is on going. And we rely on God for its completion.

OUR VISION

The word Teknotropheo represents our vision which is “to bring up our nation’s poorest children to total development”. (note: For us, ’total development’, includes the following aspects of life – the physical, social, intellectual and most of all spiritual . We would like to develop them and surpass their vulnerable state and eventually be able to sustain themselves and help others too. We envision them to be future Christian leaders.)
